Blazers kick off road trip vs. Wizards

Basketball Betting Lines

01/18/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Portland Trail Blazers hope they don't have to start their four-game eastern road trip without their top player, as they take on the Washington Wizards at the Verizon Center on Martin Luther King Day.

Blazers guard and leading scorer Brandon Roy did not play in the recent win over Orlando because of a strained right hamstring, but is listed as probable for Monday's matchup in DC. Roy is averaging 23.4 points per game this season for Portland, which just completed a five-game homestand with a 3-2 mark following Friday's 102-87 triumph over the Magic at the Rose Garden.

Martell Webster led the way with 24 points and nine rebounds, while veteran guard Andre Miller added 19 points and nine assists for the Blazers, who improved to 16-7 at home and sit 1 1/2 games behind Denver for the top spot in the Northwest Division. Steve Blake had 18 points and LaMarcus Aldridge added 14 and 14 boards in the win.

"We're playing good basketball. We're playing the game the right way and we're playing the game together," said Blazers head coach Nate McMillan. "I think that must happen regardless of who you have -- whether we have all of our guys together -- because I've seen it go the other way where you're not playing together and you're worried about different things."

The Trail Blazers will also visit the 76ers, Celtics and Pistons on the road swing and sport a 9-9 mark away from home this season.

Washington, meanwhile, ended a four-game losing streak the last time out with a 96-86 victory over Sacramento on Saturday in the opener of a six-game residency. Antawn Jamison had 14 points and nine rebounds, Caron Butler added 19 points and six boards, and Earl Boykins netted 13 points for the Wizards, who continue to toil without suspended star guard Gilbert Arenas. Arenas will face sentencing on March 26 after entering a guilty plea to a felony gun possession charge.

"We're getting past everything that's been going on and just trying to focus back in on basketball and winning games," Butler said. "We have been through everything as a team, so it's time to get back to the drawing board and get wins and focus on basketball."

The Wizards will also play host to the Mavs, Heat, Clippers and Lakers, and are 7-11 at the Verizon Center this season.

Portland is unbeaten in the past three meetings with Washington, which has dropped 15 of the past 21 games in this series. The Blazers own a 9-3 mark in their previous 12 trips to the nation's capital.
