Bobcats welcome hapless Nets to Charlotte
Basketball Betting Lines
02/16/2010 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Charlotte Bobcats will try to keep up their outstanding
home play this season at Time Warner Cable Arena tonight versus a New Jersey Nets club that hasn't won on the road in over two months.
The Bobcats come out of the All-Star break having won 10 of their last 12 at
home, helping them post a 19-6 mark as the host this season. They bested the
Wizards in their most recent game in Charlotte last Tuesday, then secured a
thrilling 93-92 victory at Minnesota on Wednesday.
Nazr Mohammed clinched the victory on a dunk with 5.3 seconds left after
securing the rebound off a Boris Diaw missed jumper. Mohammed posted a double-
double with 21 points and a season-high 20 rebounds, while Diaw ended with 15
points and five assists.
"We came out really aggressive at the beginning of the game," Tyson Chandler
told NBA.com. "But in the second half we got a little lax, had a few turnovers
and they were able to build confidence. And when you give a young team
confidence, they were able to stay in the game. They made it close."
Stephen Jackson led the club with 33 points, while D.J. Augustin made his
first start of the season and posted 12 points and seven assists. Augustin was
playing in place of Raymond Felton, who sat out due to a sprained right ankle.
He is questionable for tonight's game.
Gerald Wallace shot just 1-for-9 versus the Timberwolves, ending with five
points and nine rebounds for Charlotte, which is sixth in the Eastern
Conference, 2 1/2 games back of Toronto. Wallace, the Bobcats' lone and first-
ever All-Star representative, shot 1-for-3 in the East's 141-139 victory on
Sunday, adding three boards in 15:32 of action.
The 6-foot-7 Wallace has been a terror on the glass versus the Nets this year,
as he has a career-best 20 rebounds in both meetings with New Jersey this
year. He had 24 points and 20 boards in a 79-68 home win over the Nets on
November 2, but he wasn't able to rebound his club to a victory in New Jersey
on December 4.
That 97-91 win by the Nets snapped their season-opening 18-game losing streak
and the club will try to end another lengthy skid this season tonight versus
Charlotte. New Jersey dropped a 97-77 decision to Milwaukee on Wednesday in
its last game before the break, its eighth straight loss and 19th in its last
20 games.
The Nets have won five of their last seven versus the Bobcats, as well as
eight of the last 10 meetings at Charlotte. They hope that past success will
help them halt a 15-game road skid tonight and give them their first victory
as the visiting team since their only road win this year (1-27) on Dec. 8.
Devin Harris had 27 points and nine assists versus the Bucks, but he also
accounted for five of the Nets' 17 total turnovers. Yi Jianlian added nine
points and 12 boards, as New Jersey played in front of just over 1,000 fans
due to a snowstorm in the northeast.
"I'm not sure exactly what happened, but this is the first time in I think
eight or nine games where we didn't compete in the second half," interim coach
Kiki Vandeweghe told NBA.com. "I'm not sure exactly what happened...people
looked very tired to me."
The Nets are just 4-48 on the season and their goal following the All-Star
break will be to avoid breaking the NBA mark for the worst single-season
record held by the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers, who went 9-73 that year.

American Idol odds : Blake Lewis the Early Standout
An important American Idol betting lines recap from February 20 Guys episode. The 12 men came out flat overall with Blake Lewis appearing to have the early edge after the first hour and a half.
Rudy - was quite good singing "Free Ride" to start off. Randy was not impressed though. Paula thought he started off fantastic. "Never had anyone stop off so lively" said Paula but Simon (who does not like Rudy) does not feel he has a distinct voice and was not impressed either.
Brandon was a little pitchy according to Randy and Paula agreed. Simon said he was a good singer but the song was "too safe" and he needs to make an impact. He was listed at +1200 odds or $1200 paid out on a $100 bet should he win the competition.
Big favorite Sundance came in with a flat version of "Knights in White Satin" and the judges let him have it, including Paula. Randy claimed the song was out of pitch throughout.
Korean American - and a Jenny Woo favorite - Paul Kim was up next. Another pitchy flat one but Randy said he still liked his potential. Kim at +3000 odds was said to have sung a "third rate version of that (George Michael) song" according to Simon Cowell. He sang "Careless Whisper".
22 year old Chris Richardson was up next. He was listed with +1100 odds coming in. He got the best response from the judges though Simon did not believe the vocal was that great.
Nick was boring and pitchy. Simon didn't think he was that bad though and predicted he would be back next week. Nick Pedro was a big +3000 dog coming into this competition.
Beat boxer Blake Lewis was listed with early +1000 odds or $1000 payout on a $100 bet if he were to become the next American Idol winner odds . These of course were the early odds. He was considered original for picking an "odd song". He did not beat box and the judges felt it was the best vocal of the night.
Sanjaya came in as the second biggest favorite after Chris Sligh but his performance Tuesday night was not very good.
Chris Sleigh was the early favorite at +450 odds. Great voice and a great sense of humor. He's a real standout. Randy felt it was on point but maybe ahead of the chorus a little bit. Simon Cowell said he felt like he was in some "sort of weird student gig".
Jared Cotter followed. He was listed with +2000 odds early on to win the competition. The judges felt he needs to take more risks but looked good.
22-year old AJ Talbado, who has tried out for American Idol five times, was up next. "Kind of a theme park performance" said Simon. Though the judges felt he performed okay. Simon did feel AJ might be better than he originally thought.
Phil - this season's military favorite - came into this competition with +1200 odds to win the competition. He was the last to perform. He was certainly strong enough to get through this stage of the competition and perhaps the best one after a shaky start.
Tomorrow night, the ladies perform and I sure hope they do a better job than the boys. Check out all the American Idol betting odds here.

Big 12 Conference betting odds
Work left to do: Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Kansas State
Texas joins Texas A&M and Kansas as locks after getting league win No. 11. Texas Tech greatly helped its own hopes and crippled OK State's with the two-point win Saturday. Is K-State the last reasonable hopeful? Could be an elimination match in Stillwater on Tuesday, at least for the Cowboys.
Work left to do:
Texas Tech [18-11 (7-7), RPI: 44, SOS: 12] A critical two-point win over OK State leaves the Red Raiders with Baylor and at Iowa State left. Get both and the Red Raiders likely are good to go. Get one and there could be some interesting comparisons with a K-State team that could finish two or three games "ahead" of them in the standings but doesn't have any of the quality wins Texas Tech has. Not a lot in nonconference play (against Arkansas in Little Rock being the best win, by far) to lean on.
Oklahoma State [18-9 (5-8), RPI: 50, SOS: 35] Still without a road win, the Cowboys now need to win two on the road just to get to .500 in conference play. It's hard to recall a team (OK, other than Clemson) falling so precipitously from lock status to almost certainly out of the NCAAs at this point. There are wins to be had in the last three, including a very big home game against K-State on Tuesday, but this team is reeling. Can you tell the pressure to win is getting to them with the way the final possession played out at Texas Tech? There are some good nonconference performances to lean on, specifically beating Missouri State and Syracuse on neutral floors and Pitt in OK City, but if the Pokes don't right this very, very soon, that won't be enough.
Kansas State [20-9 (9-5), RPI: 56, SOS: 96] It pays to be in the Big 12 North. The nine league wins are Colorado (twice), Missouri (twice), Iowa State (twice), Baylor, Nebraska and (a good one against) Texas. That helps explain the middling computer profile. The win over USC is nice, but the nonconference leaves a lot to be desired. The game at OK State in Stillwater on Tuesday is huge, as it could KO the Cowboys and leave K-State with a home date against Oklahoma with which to work.
