Boozer, Jazz rally from 25 down to beat Blazers in OT

02/22/2010 -
Portland, OR (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Carlos Boozer capped an incredible comeback by
hitting a game-tying shot with less than a second to go in regulation and put
in the eventual go-ahead bucket in overtime, as Utah came back from down 25
for a 93-89 shocker over Portland at the Rose Garden.
Boozer scored 22 overall and grabbed a career-high 23 rebounds for Utah, which
put the wraps on a perfect four-game road trip in dramatic fashion to run its
winning streak away from home to seven straight games.
The last time Utah won seven in a row on the road was from January 6 -
February 23, 2001.
Deron Williams had 18 points and 12 assists for the Jazz, who have won 17 of
their last 19 games overall. Paul Millsap and Wesley Matthews each recorded a
dozen points.
Brandon Roy had 23 points for Portland, which dropped the final two contests
of a three-game homestand. Andre Miller finished with 17 points and LaMarcus
Aldridge wound up with 15 and 10 rebounds.
The Trail Blazers shot 51.4 percent in the first half, but only 24.4 percent
in the second half. They made just 2-of-17 field goals in the fourth quarter
(11.8 percent) and 2-of-10 in overtime.
Utah began the fourth on a 12-3 run to make it just a four-point game. Miller
got Portland's first field goal of the final stanza with under five minutes
left and it remained a two-possession game heading down the stretch.
Kyle Korver drilled a three with 2:27 to go for just a three-point Jazz
deficit, and Roy made just 1-of-2 at the opposite end for an 83-79 difference.
Boozer went up for a layup on the ensuing possession, but had it blocked by
the newest Blazer Marcus Camby. Portland took it the other way with a chance
to create some separation, but Aldridge's jumper was off the mark and several
putbacks were also unsuccessful.
Portland was able to retain possession and used a timeout, but Roy's floater
that followed was short, and Williams was fouled on the other end, making both
for an 83-81 game with 30.2 seconds remaining.
Nicolas Batum decided on a three-pointer on Portland's next turn -- it missed
and Kyrylo Fesenko grabbed the rebound to give the Jazz a chance at a tying or
winning shot with 5.4 seconds left on the clock.
Williams had a jumper fall off the front of the rim, but Boozer snagged the
carom and went back up with a bank shot to tie the game at 83 with only a
fraction of a second left.
Roy opened the extra session with a trey, but Fesenko and Boozer laid in back-
to-back buckets from the paint to give Utah it's first lead at 87-86 since it
was 9-8 in the game's opening minutes.
Fesenko got his second dunk of OT and Williams pulled up for a smooth jumper
as the Jazz took a 91-86 lead via an 8-0 spurt with under two minutes to go.
The Blazers continued to misfire on their end, missing six straight shots
after Roy's three, but an untimely attempt at a three-pointer by Williams saw
Portland running the other way -- and Rudy Fernandez stroked a three with 23.9
seconds on the clock for a 91-89 game.
Boozer could only make 1-of-2 from the stripe, and left the door open with
12.3 ticks left. Portland called a timeout to set up Roy for a game-tying
three, but it rimmed in and out as the clock rolled away and Utah hit a single
free throw for a two-possession game with less than five seconds remaining to
seal it.
The Blazers were in complete control from tip to nearly halfway through the
third quarter before things began to fall apart. The hosts were up 27-14 after
12 minutes, 50-38 at halftime and stormed out to a commanding 64-39 lead after
scoring 14 of the first 15 points to start the second half.
Millsap stopped the bleeding with a dunk for Utah's first field goal of the
third with 6:45 remaining. It also began a 12-2 run for the Jazz, who pulled
within 15 on two free throws by Matthews with the clock at 4 1/2 minutes left.
The Jazz kept chipping away and put in six of the frame's final eight points
to make it a 73-60 affair.
