Hill, Spurs continue recent dominance over Clippers
Basketball Betting Lines
02/07/2010 -
Los Angeles, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - George Hill scored 22 points on 8-of-11
shooting, and the San Antonio Spurs notched their 15th straight win over the
Clippers with a 98-81 win at Staples Center.
Tony Parker added 14 points and 14 assists for the Spurs, who have not lost to
the Clippers since March 7, 2006. Tim Duncan and Matt Bonner each contributed
11 points in the resounding victory.
Chris Kaman had 21 points to pace the Clippers, who scored just 27 points in
the first half and were coming off a 2-6 road trip. Eric Gordon contributed 20
points as the only other Los Angeles player to score in double-figures.
It was not the best head coaching debut for Kim Hughes, who replaced Mike
Dunleavy on the Clippers' bench earlier this week after Dunleavy decided to
focus on his role as general manager of the team.
San Antonio got off to a quick start and never looked back.
The Clippers scored the game's first four points, but the Spurs answered with
the next 18. Hill got things going with the first seven San Antonio points,
and his three-pointer with 5:15 left made it an 18-4 contest.
Hill, who had 17 in the first quarter, finished the period with a pair of
buckets for a 28-10 Spurs advantage.
The Spurs led by as many as 22 in the second quarter and took a commanding
49-27 lead into halftime.
Richard Jefferson's dunk just prior to the four-minute mark of the third
provided San Antonio with their largest lead of the game at 65-34, and it was
82-62 heading into the fourth, which was just a formality on the way to the
Spurs' win.
Game Notes
The Spurs improved to 2-1 on an eight-game road trip that will see the team
visit the Lakers, Nuggets, Pacers, 76ers and Pistons...San Antonio is 10-10 on
the road, and Los Angeles is 14-10 at home...The 27 points by the Clippers in
the first half is a season-low for any half.

“You play to win the game!”
Those are the words of notoriously intense head coach Herman Edwards. Unfortunately, from a bettors’ perspective, most coaches don’t feel that way about the NFL preseason. August is a time to evaluate young players, finalize the depth chart and pray your star players stay healthy.
The trick to making money during the exhibition schedule is identifying coaches – like Edwards – who can’t stand losing even when there's nothing on the line.
The New York Jets betting won 15 of 21 preseason games and went 14-7 against the spread (ATS) during Edwards’s five-year tenure with the club. In his first season as the Kansas City Chiefs field boss, the team improved from 0-4 to 2-2.
Identifying win-a-holics like Edwards is a good start if you plan betting the preseason – even though most say you shouldn’t ... but what the hell do they know anyway?
Here’s a brief rundown of two teams that have a habit of winning during the second-stringers’ season, and another club that has a good chance of exceeding this year.
New York Giants betting lines
Playing in the media hub of North America can be stressful but the press can’t write anything negative about the way Tom Coughlin’s boys play in the preseason. The Giants won and covered all four games last summer, improving their record to 7-1 both straight up (SU) and against the spread over the last two years.
Coughlin has shown he’s not afraid to give his starters more time in the second preseason game than most of his colleagues, no doubt one of the reasons his team has been so dominant.
Dallas Cowboys betting lines
Bettors can count on America’s team early on. The Cowboys are 14-6 both SU and ATS since 2002 in warm-up contests. Former coach Bill Parcells, the coach of the team the last four years, has an intimidating, in-your-face presence – surely a reason Dallas has had so much early success.
The Big Tuna won’t be strolling the sidelines with looks of disgust, but new coach Wade Phillips will be anxious to make a good first impression for owner Jerry Jones.
Dallas plays the Indianapolis Colts and the Denver Broncos before things get serious. They then face the Houston Texans in their third contest (the game starters see most game time) and finish off with the Minnesota Vikings.
Expect a Dallas team able to walk away with another 3-1 preseason record.
Oakland Raiders betting lines
This team scored a league-worst 12 offensive touchdowns last season, so the rookies and veterans each have something to prove. There’s a bounty of first-unit jobs up for grabs and plenty of bodies competing for those slots.
First-time head coach Lane Kiffin will be eager to impress an owner who employs the philosophy, “Just win, baby!”
The 32-year-old Kiffin has to command respect from a locker room full of players older than him. All of these factors should lead to purpose in preseason.
Don’t forget: before playing like a team that belonged in NFL Europe, Oakland went 4-1 (both SU and ATS) in exhibition games.

Sportsbook betting odds favor Europe in Ryder Cup
September 19, – Despite holding a decided edge in the all-time series, with 24 wins, 2 ties and 10 losses, Team USA is the underdog again heading into the Ryder Cup in Kidare, Ireland this weekend, according to MySportsbook.com. The Europeans have captured four of the past five editions, including their largest victory ever, an 18 ½ to 9 ½ thumping in Michigan in 2004. Current Ryder Cup betting odds favor the Europeans to continue their winning ways; they are a 4-5 bet to take the title, compared to 6-5 for the Americans.
Despite being knocked out in the first round of World Match play by Shaun Micheel, Tiger Woods is predicted to lead the US charge and be their highest point scorer for the week, with odds listed at 9-4 that he outpoints all other American players, including Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Chris DiMarco to name a few. Team USA has four relatively unknown players on the roster but all four are 2007 tournament winners and have posted some of season’s best performances, each earning over $1.5 million on the PGA TOUR. They include Zach Johnson, Vaughan Taylor, JJ Henry and Brett Wetterich.
The experienced European squad includes the likes of Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Jose Maria Olazabal and Darren Clarke, who’s emotions will be tested after the passing of his wife to a battle with cancer. Donald and Garcia are in particularly good form and each is a 5-1 bet to lead the European squad in the points race. Donald has proven he can go head to head with Woods at a major event after a run for the $1.2 million purse at the PGA Championship. Garcia’s Ryder Cup credentials prove he’s ready for battle too.
