Foxborough, MA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Ilija Stolica scored his first Major League
Soccer goal and the New England Revolution edged the Houston Dynamo, 1-0, on
Saturday night at Gillette Stadium.
Stolica, a Serbian striker, was signed recently by New England and scored his
first goal in his second MLS appearance.
New England (6-9-3) extended its unbeaten streak to four games, a stretch that
includes three victories. Houston (5-10-5) lost for the sixth time during its
current 10-game winless streak.
Houston had the first two shots on goal in the match from Danny Cruz and Lovel
Palmer, but New England goalie Matt Reis saved both.
New England managed its two first-half shots on goal in the final 15 minutes,
but Stolica and Shalrie Joseph failed to beat Houston goalie Tally Hall.
Stolica provided the lone shot on target in the second half, and converted the
chance into the lone goal of the match. Sainey Nyassi set up the goal with his
second assist, and Stolica volleyed home the game-winner from 20 yards.
New England will try to build on its current unbeaten streak Wednesday when it
visits the Chicago Fire in the second of three games in just over a week. The
Revs also visit the Kansas City Wizards on Aug. 21.
Houston will try to snap its slide Aug. 21 when it hosts Chicago.
