Still streaking: UConn never challenged by No. 3 Notre Dame

NCAA Basketball Betting Lines

01/16/2010 - Storrs, CT (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Tina Charles posted 23 points and 13 rebounds, and top-ranked Connecticut easily dispatched No. 3 and previously unbeaten Notre Dame, 70-46, at Gampel Pavilion for its 56th consecutive victory, the second longest streak in NCAA history.

Maya Moore tallied 20 and 11 boards, while Kalana Greene scored 13 points for the Huskies (17-0, 5-0 Big East), who amazingly have won every game during its win streak by double digits. UConn next plays at No. 7 Duke on Monday.

Devereaux Peters and Ashley Barlow netted 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Fighting Irish (15-1, 2-1), who were in the midst of the second-best start in program history, topped only by a 23-0 debut in 2000-01. Leading scorer Skylar Diggins went 2-for-13 from the floor and ended with just six points.

Notre Dame was simply outplayed from the opening tip, as the Huskies were up 17-2 less than six minutes into the game. The Irish had five turnovers in that stretch and missed six consecutive shots.

Charles' jumper finished the early burst, and the 6-foot-4 center countered a Barlow basket with seven consecutive points in less than a minute for a healthy 24-4 cushion with 12 1/2 minutes still to play in the opening stanza.

Charles ended with 17 points in the first half, as the hosts held a comfortable 42-19 advantage before cruising to the finish line in the second half.

The next time these teams meet is on March 1 at the Joyce Center. If the Huskies are still unbeaten after that game, they will be one win away from their own NCAA record of 70 straight wins set between 2001-03.

Stanley Cup betting

New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.

The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.

MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.

Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.
