Timberwolves shoot for rare win in Atlanta

Basketball Betting Lines

02/24/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Minnesota Timberwolves were able to pick up a rare road victory last night, but making it two in a row might present a problem given the location of tonight's contest.

Minnesota will try to snap a seven-game series losing streak to the Atlanta Hawks tonight, while also trying to post their first win in Atlanta in over seven years in Wednesday's matchup at Philips Arena.

The Timberwolves haven't beaten Atlanta as the road team since November 20, 2002 and haven't captured any type of victory over the Hawks since April 9, 2006 in Minnesota. Atlanta is averaging 100.4 points per game over its current series winning streak and posted a 112-87 triumph when the clubs met in Minnesota on December 22 of this season.

However, the Timberwolves are coming off a 91-88 victory over a Dwyane Wade- less Heat club last night. The victory snapped a six-game overall losing streak for Minnesota and was just the club's second win in its last 14 road games. The 'Wolves are 5-24 overall on the road this season.

Jonny Flynn netted 16 points and Kevin Lowe added 17 points and 12 rebounds for Minnesota. Lowe had 15 points and 19 rebounds in the loss to Atlanta earlier this season, while Flynn scored 16.

"It was just a great game," Flynn said of last night's victory. "It was a good win for us. Coming off of six straight losses it's always good to get a win, especially in a season where we are not getting a lot of wins. Every win is good for us."

Atlanta does know a little something about ending lengthy losing streaks, as its 105-100 victory over Utah on Monday was its first at Salt Lake City since February 13, 1993. The Hawks had dropped 15 straight in Utah before Monday's win.

Joe Johnson led the way with 28 points, six rebounds and six assists, while Josh Smith contributed 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists in helping Atlanta earn a split of its four-game road trip.

"It felt great. It's been a long time since the Hawks have won in this building and get outside of a losing streak," Johnson said. "It's always great to get a win, but I thought we were very composed tonight, and in the fourth quarter when we did get down we were able to not get rattled and make a run of our own and kind of close the game out."

Jamal Crawford donated 17 points off the bench Monday night. He scored 26 in a reserve role back in December versus Minnesota, while Johnson added 21 points in that victory.

Atlanta is fourth overall in the Eastern Conference and two games back of Orlando for first place in the Southeast Division. The Hawks have also won nine of their last 11 at home, where they play their next three games.

Huskers' Lucky hospitalized for undisclosed reason

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska running back Marlon Lucky was hospitalized Monday for undisclosed reasons after Lincoln police responded to a call at his residence.

The Nebraska athletic department said in a release Monday that Lucky was admitted Sunday night.

MySportsbook.com has the Cornhuskers listed at +2500 to win the BCS National Championship odds.

A nursing supervisor at the hospital said all questions about Lucky were being referred to the athletic department. The athletic department said there would be no further comment from the department or Lucky's family.

A Lincoln Police spokesman said officers responded to a call at Lucky's residence 11:30 p.m. Sunday. The spokesman said he didn't know Lucky's condition at the time he was taken to the hospital.

Lucky, from North Hollywood, Calif., started six games last season as a sophomore and was the team's second-leading rusher, with 728 yards and six touchdowns. He also caught 32 passes for 383 yards. He averaged 19.1 yards on eight kickoff returns.
