Temple beats James Madison to advance

Kristen McCarthy and LaKeisha Eaddy added 15 points apiece for Temple (25-8), which will battle top-seeded UConn in the second round. The Huskies have won an NCAA record 73 consecutive games, and Temple head coach Tonya Cardoza was an assistant coach at UConn for 14 years.

Dawn Evans scored 18 points in defeat for James Madison (26-7), which received 14 points from Tarik Hislop.

Temple led 23-19 at intermission on the strength of a 13-2 run early in the opening stanza.

James Madison finished with its lowest point total of the season and trailed throughout the second half.

The Owls closed the game on a 15-7 run.
