Cyclones blown away by UConn
NCAA Basketball Betting Lines
03/28/2010 -
Dayton, OH (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Maya Moore posted a game-high 25 points as the
UConn Huskies crushed Iowa State, 74-36, in the Dayton Regional Semifinal of
the NCAA Tournament.
Moore, who also registered six rebounds, three assists and three steals for
the Huskies (36-0), knocked down her first five three-point attempts of the
game as the victory stretched the nation's longest win streak to a staggering
75 in a row and the team continues to add to its NCAA record. Tina Charles
accounted for 16 points and seven rebounds and Kelly Faris 16 points of her
own off the bench as she made good on all four of her three-point tries on the
afternoon for the top seed in the tourney.
The fourth-seeded Cyclones (25-8) were led by Anna Prins who delivered 10
points, but shot just 4-of-14 from the field. Chelsea Poppens chipped in with
eight points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Moore converted her first three-pointer less than a minute into the meeting,
getting the Huskies off on the right foot as they ran out to a 14-2 advantage
and eventually a 42-14 lead at the break. UConn made good on seven threes in
the first half alone, one more than ISU had total field goals in the period.
The second half was more of the same for the Huskies, their lead reaching as
high as 50 points (74-24). Even though UConn failed to score a single point
after the 6:59 mark it made no difference in the outcome.
With the Huskies missing numerous shots in the final minutes the team finished
the day hitting just 39.4 percent from the floor, yet that was still
considerably better than the 28.3 percent shot by an Iowa State program that
failed to make a single trip to the free-throw line.
All three of Connecticut's opponents in the NCAA Tournament thus far have been
held below 40 points, which means the team's 148-point combined scoring margin
in those contests have set a new tourney record through the first three
rounds.
With the victory the Huskies will now take on the winner of the Mississippi
State/Florida State meeting in the regional finals on Tuesday night at Dayton
Arena.
