Suns aim to finish off Blazers

Basketball Betting Lines

04/29/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Western Conference quarterfinals series between the Phoenix Suns and Portland Trail Blazers has proven styles not only make fights, they decide them.

When the high-flying Suns have been able to push the basketball, they leave the Blazers in the dust. When Portland has been able to slow things down and make it a half-court game, Phoenix gets flustered.

It's the Blazers that will need to control the tempo tonight if they hope to extend their season and force a deciding Game 7.

Channing Frye and Jared Dudley had big games off the bench with 20 and 19 points, respectively, on Monday as the Suns ran past Portland, 107-88, in the pivotal Game 5.

Steve Nash scored 11 of his 14 points during the third quarter and also had 10 assists for Phoenix, which grabbed a 3-2 lead and can close out the series tonight. Amare Stoudemire chipped in 19 points in the win.

"When the game is open court we can use our quickness and our athleticism," Suns coach Alvin Gentry said. "They're so long and so big. (Marcus) Camby and those guys just suck up everything on the boards when you're in a stagnant type of offense. We just tried to open up the floor."

Portland has never won a playoff series when they have trailed 3-2. Meanwhile, when a series is tied at 2-2, the winner of Game 5 goes on to win the series 83.4 percent of the time.

Andre Miller totaled 21 points, while Jerryd Bayless and LaMarcus Aldridge each scored 17 in Game 5 for the Blazers, who wasted an early 14-point lead.

Brandon Roy, playing in his second game since undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, was limited to five points. Last Saturday, Roy scored five of his 10 points in the final quarter of Portland's 96-87 victory. On Monday, he picked up three fouls in the first half.

"He got some quick fouls," Blazers coach Nate McMillan said. "Sometimes you can't just get into a rhythm when you're in foul trouble like that."

Phoenix remains without the services of starting center Robin Lopez, who is sidelined with a back injury. The 7-footer hasn't played since March 26 but has begun light workouts and will be re-evaluated next week. He is not scheduled to play in this series.

The Blazers, of course, are already without centers Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla, who were lost earlier in the season to knee injuries.

Game 7 of the series, if necessary, will be back in Phoenix on Saturday.

Albert Pujols to be This Year's Home Run Champ Says Online Sportsbook

Barry Bonds is a 50-1 long shot to be this year's home run champ odds.  The favorite to be this year's home run champ is none other than Albert Pujols, however.

Now that Barry Bonds is signed and in Giants camp, it is on to his pursuit of all of sports most prestigious records: the all-time home run mark. Bonds sits just 21 homers shy of tying Hank Aaron for the career mark at 755. Word out of Giants’ camp is that Bonds is the healthiest he has been in a few years. Bonds is just two seasons removed from his injury riddled 2005 campaign where he played in only 14 games and hit only 5 home runs. He did come back last year and had a solid season hitting .270 with 26 bombs. All eyes will be on Bonds this spring and summer not only because of his home run chase but his highly publicized steroid abuse allegations. If and when Bonds breaks the record, he surely will not get the positive attention one should for breaking a record that was once thought of as “unbreakable”. Despite Bonds decent season last year, he is just 50-1 at MySportsbook.com to lead the MLB in long balls this season.

Not surprisingly, the favorites to go deep the most times this season are Albert Pujols 5-1, Ryan Howard 6-1, David Ortiz 8-1 and Alex Rodriguez 12-1. With 49 homers, Pujols finished second in the National League behind Howard (58). Pujols is considered the favorite due to the consistent power numbers that he has posted since breaking into the league in 2001. Also one must consider the fact that he played in 16 fewer games then Howard did due to an injury. Howard smashed 58 homers in his first complete season of big league play en route to the National League MVP odds award. He silenced his critics by successfully hitting left-handed pitching. Howard also displayed the ability to use his power to the opposite field. Two attributes which should keep Howard amongst the league leaders in long balls for years to come. From the American League representatives, David Ortiz leads the field. Ortiz was second in the majors last year with 54 home runs. Except for 1999 when he only played in 10 games, Ortiz has improved on his home run numbers each year he has been in the majors (1997).
